Choosing your hoop size

Hoop size is the outer diameter. Small hoops (about 10–15 mm) hug the lobe and are the easiest to wear every day. Medium hoops (about 20–30 mm) are the most versatile and work at the office and at dinner. Large hoops (40 mm and up) are a deliberate statement and look best with the face and neck clear. If you have a second piercing, pair a small hoop with a stud above it.

Thin, thick or hammered

A thin hoop is quiet and classic, and it layers well with studs. A thick hoop has more presence and catches more light, making it the modern everyday hoop. A hammered hoop has a faceted surface that glints when you move, and it hides small scratches.

Comfort and closures

Solid silver is lighter than it looks, but large or thick hoops still carry some weight. If your lobes are sensitive to weight, start with medium hoops. If you're buying a first pair as a gift, a small or medium hoop in a simple finish is the safest choice, because hoops sit close to the face and suit almost everything. Hill tribe silver is soft, so open and close the hoops gently, without forcing the wire sideways, and they'll keep their shape.

Keeping your hoops bright

Put your earrings on after perfume, hairspray and lotion, not before. Take them off for swimming. Wipe them with a soft polishing cloth when they dull, and store each pair separately so the hoops don't scratch or bend.

Silver hoop earrings FAQ

Are your hoops solid silver or plated?
Solid silver. Every pair is either hill tribe silver or 925 sterling silver, and the ear wire or post is the same metal as the hoop.

Do you have sterling silver hoop earrings?
Yes. Several of our hoops are 925 sterling silver, which is firmer and keeps a crisp shape. The others are hill tribe silver, a softer, higher-purity silver.

What size hoop is best for everyday wear?
Small to medium hoops, about 10–30 mm, are the easiest to wear daily. They sit close to the lobe and don't catch on scarves or collars.

Can I sleep or shower in silver hoops?
Water won't harm silver, but soap and shampoo leave a film, so rinse and dry your hoops now and then and polish them when they dull. Small hoops are the most comfortable to sleep in.

What are thick silver hoops?
Hoops made from a wider or heavier band. They give a bolder look than fine wire hoops and work as an everyday statement.
